'Samara Regional Historical and Local Lore Museum named after P. V. Alabin' is one of the oldest museums in the Volga region. It is located in several buildings, the main one of which is the former Samara branch of the Central Museum of V. I. Lenin, built in 1989. The museum presents the main exhibition and collections of archaeological, natural science, historical and everyday-life, ethnographic and numismatic items. Visitors can also use the cinema-lecture hall, a library with a reading room, an art workshop, a photo studio, a café, a museum shop and an information center. The museum receives over 205,000 visitors annually. In 2000 the museum established international contacts with the Canadian Museum of Civilization. In 2006–2007 a joint exhibition project 'Masters of the Steppes' was held, which is a unique project in world museum practice. In 2008 the exhibition was presented at the P. V. Alabin Museum.
