Korobov Chambers
About museum
Korobov Mansion is one of the oldest buildings in Kaluga. It is listed as a site of federal historical and cultural significance and was already recognized as a rare antiquity in the 19th century. For a long time it was called the 'House of Marina Mniszech', but it was actually built in the 17th century by the Kaluga merchant Kirill Korobov. The house was built of wood and consisted of two log structures separated by a spacious entry hall. The first floor housed utility rooms, while the second contained bedrooms and a living room. At the end of the 17th century the second floor was rebuilt in stone. The decorative facade gives the mansion a particularly ornate appearance. After Korobov's death in 1691 the house was divided among his heirs. In 1897 the Provincial Historical Museum was opened here, and in 1997 it was transferred to the Regional Local History Museum. Today it presents an exhibition dedicated to Russian peasantry. The Korobov Mansion attracts tourists not only with its history but also with its decorative facade.
