Orsk Local History Museum
About museum
Orsk Local History Museum is one of the largest museums in the Orenburg Region. It was founded in 1939 at the initiative of geologist Iosif Leonovich Rudnitsky and began its work with 2,800 exhibits: samples of ore and non-ore minerals, precious and decorative stones, etc. During the Great Patriotic War the museum was temporarily closed, but in 1947 it resumed collecting exhibits and in 1950 opened its doors to visitors. In 1958 the museum moved to a new building and established permanent exhibitions on the history of the pre-Soviet and Soviet periods. In 2011, after reconstruction, the museum was completely renewed and equipped with the latest information technologies, allowing a more detailed presentation of the city's cultural heritage.
