German Alekseevich Travnikov – a Soviet and Russian artist, People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2007). German Alekseevich was born on December 15, 1937, in the village of Mekhonskoye in Kurgan Oblast. He worked as an artist at the Kurgan Machine-Building Plant, studied at the Sverdlovsk Art School, and served in the KGB Border Troops in Primorsky Krai. After graduating from the art school he worked as an artist at the "Sputnik" cinema, headed the art studio of the Kurgan State Pedagogical Institute, and worked as an artist at the Kurgan broadcasting and television studio.
In 1967 Travnikov joined the Union of Artists of the USSR. He participated in more than 160 exhibitions, including over 50 solo exhibitions. German Alekseevich Travnikov's works entered the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery and other museums in Russia and neighboring countries, and are also held in numerous private collections. In 1982 Travnikov was awarded the honorary title "Honored Artist of Russia", and in 2007 – the highest distinction – the title "People's Artist of Russia".
