Olenek Historical and Ethnographic Museum of the Peoples of the North
About museum
In 1984 the Olenek Historical and Ethnographic Museum began its activities on the initiative of V. A. Benchik with the assistance of K. N. Semenov (Candidate of Technical Sciences) and N. D. Arkhipov (Candidate of Historical Sciences). In 1987 a development program for the museum was drawn up, and T. Yu. Sem and N. D. Arkhipov, in collaboration with the State Museum of Ethnography of the Peoples of the USSR, the Yakut State United Museum of the History and Culture of the Peoples of the North, and Yakut State University, created a thematic exhibition plan. In 1993 the museum received the status of a state cultural institution and funding from the republican budget. It is located in an adapted wooden building.
