Ostafyevo Estate Museum
About museum
The Ostafyevo Estate — 'Russian Parnassus' — is not only a historical architectural site but also a place for cultural leisure for the modern visitor.
The Ostafyevo–'Russian Parnassus' estate museum is a unique example of noble culture within Moscow. It was built in the 18th–19th centuries and is an architectural monument. In addition, there is a centuries-old park with a pond and trees that is recognized as a cultural heritage site. The estate's history begins in the 17th century; in the 18th–19th centuries it belonged to the Vyazemsky and Sheremetev princes. From 1804 to 1816 Nikolay Mikhailovich Karamzin lived here. Alexander Pushkin visited three times and gave the estate its secondary name, 'Russian Parnassus'. The museum's holdings include collections of sculpture, painting, graphic art, numismatics, decorative and applied arts, as well as rare books and film/photo materials. The museum hosts various events: exhibitions, displays, lectures, conferences, guided tours, master classes, quests and concerts.
