About museum
In August 2014 the "Russia in the Great War" museum was opened at the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Reserve, timed to the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. It is the first museum in modern Russia dedicated to this tragic period of history. It is housed in the building of the Gosudarevaya Ratnaya Chamber, built by Emperor Nicholas. The museum's exhibition is based on authentic items of weaponry and everyday life of participants of the Great War, documentary and photographic materials. In the inner courtyard there are examples of military equipment, including a howitzer and an armored car. The exhibits include the machine guns of the time, uniforms from different countries, awards, personal belongings of those who fought in the Great War, weapons, photographs and documents. The compositional center of the exhibition is an exact replica of the French fighter of the First World War, the Nieuport 17. In addition, the museum displays an authentic Ford car which from 1909 entered service with the Russian army. It was a command vehicle of one of three types: cargo, ambulance and command.
