Verkhnesaldinsky Local History Museum on Kalinina Street
About museum
Verkhnesaldinsky Local History Museum was founded on April 1, 1996, and is housed in two buildings. The main building, located at 64 Lenina Street, is a regional historical monument dating from the first half of the 19th century. The office building of the Verkhnesaldinsky Plant was built in 1831 to a design by A.P. Chebotarev, a serf architect of the Nizhny Tagil plants. From 1897 to 1901 the outstanding metallurgist Vladimir Yefimovich Grum-Grzhimailo lived and worked here. Since 2006 the 'Museum of Everyday Life and Crafts' has been located in the SMZ (Old Metallurgical Plant) library building at 35 Kalinina Street. Since October 2018 the museum's main building at 64 Lenina Street has been closed to visitors due to repair works. The 'Museum of Everyday Life and Crafts' building houses the museum staff and its collections storage. At present activities are carried out by request outside the museum: walking and bus tours, thematic lectures and interactive sessions, and tours of the museum's traveling exhibitions located at city institutions such as the administration building, libraries, schools, clubs, etc.
