Polar Odyssey Museum
About museum
The Polar Odyssey Sea Club was founded in 1978 and has since brought together enthusiasts of sea travel and naval history. Over the past 30 years, full-scale replicas of historic wooden sailing vessels have been built, which club members used for expeditions and festivals. In 2000 a maritime museum was opened, whose main exhibits are operational replicas of historic sailing ships and an exhibition about the travels and expeditions of the club's members. Tourists from different countries visit the museum daily to feel like a true sea dog on the decks and in the cabins of antique ships and to take a voyage across Lake Onega. The tour begins with an account of the club's history, after which visitors can see the wooden sailing vessels and veterans of the traditional fleet, as well as boats and watercraft. At the final stage visitors can board the operational vessels and learn about life at sea and the specifics of seamanship. No other museum in Russia offers such opportunities.
