Open-air museum 'Battery No. 394 of Captain A.E. Zubkov'

About museum

On Cape Penay, in a juniper sparse woodland, there is a memorial complex dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, defenders of Tsemess Bay and the port of Novorossiysk. The stationary Battery No. 394 of the 1st Guards Artillery Division of the Novorossiysk naval base of the Black Sea Fleet was the closest to the front line and the most effective. For its accuracy it was nicknamed 'the traffic regulator in Novorossiysk'. The battery features 100-mm naval guns, an 85-mm anti-aircraft gun, engines of Soviet fighters, steam-gas torpedoes and a naval anchor mine. It was subjected to more than 12,000 shells and aerial bombs, but the gun courtyards, command and chemical posts, and artillery magazines have been preserved, where one can view photographs and items of the Red Fleet artillerymen. This reinforced concrete structure, built in 1941, still represents an example of military fortification.
