Postal Affairs of Simbirsk-Ulyanovsk Museum
About museum
The Postal Affairs of Simbirsk-Ulyanovsk Museum is located at the end of the former Moscow Street on territory that until the late 1990s belonged to the Udelnaya office. In 2002 a building for this museum was erected on the site of the gardener's wooden wing. On its three floors there are various sources that provide an overview of the history of Simbirsk's postal service from the second half of the 17th century to the present day. Visitors can learn about the hardworking postal service employees: coachmen (yamshchiks), station attendants, postmasters, and postmen from the time of the Great Patriotic War and modern times. The exhibition features unique exhibits such as items listed in post office inventories, personal belongings and photographs of post offices, official letters and letters from ordinary Soviet citizens of the 1930s–1940s. In times of continually changing delivery methods and a variety of services available to the public, the museum offers visitors the chance to discover interesting pages of postal history.
