Museum of Writing
About museum
In the exhibition in the Likhudov Building you can see and learn many interesting things about the Old Russian book, the art of book ornamentation, the history of printing in Russia, and the fate of Novgorod libraries. The displays include Old Russian coins and seals, stone crosses, and fragments of plaster bearing Cyrillic and Glagolitic inscriptions. A separate hall is devoted to a rare phenomenon of Old Russian writing — birch-bark letters. Here you can also see and experience the history of one of Russia's first higher educational institutions — the school of the Likhud brothers. The exhibition presents the earliest books of Ancient Rus, outstanding examples of artistic decoration in manuscript and printed books, as well as multimedia materials, including video films, interactive game programs, and animated illustrated books. This exhibition will be an excellent source of knowledge for everyone interested in Old Russian culture and history.
