About museum

In 2000 the Stavropol Cossack Cultural Center was opened at the initiative of the leadership of the Terek Cossack Host with the exhibition 'Cossackdom Is Being Reborn.' In 2002, based on this exhibition, the Department of Cossack History of the Stavropol State Museum of Local Lore named after G. N. Prozritelev and G. K. Prave was established. The new exhibition 'Cossack Antiquities' was founded on the hereditary collection of the ataman of the city's Cossack society, V. A. Esaulov. It features 19th-century shashkas and daggers, examples of firearms, orders and medals, presentation weapons, as well as items related to the service of Cossacks in the convoy of His Imperial Majesty. Thus, visitors are offered the opportunity to gain an understanding of the variety and peculiarities of Cossack service, as well as their system of upbringing and military training.
