Museum of Oryol Writers
About museum
The history of the Museum of Oryol Writers began in 1918, when the I. S. Turgenev Museum-Library was opened, where the "Writers' Room named after A. A. Fet" was created and items related to the memory of writers from the Oryol Governorate began to be collected. In 1957 this material made it possible to establish the Museum of Oryol Writers in the house of T. N. Granovsky. It displayed autographs, portraits, documents, books, pieces of furniture and much more. In 1980 the museum was moved to the Galakhov House, where a new exhibition was opened presenting a corner dedicated to each writer. In 1991 Bunin's and Andreev's houses became separate museum houses, and their place was taken by the writer B. K. Zaytsev. Today the Museum of Oryol Writers welcomes visitors to the restored building with priceless exhibits and memorial items of the classics of Russian literature. The museum features the names of well-known writers and émigrés and has become a meeting place for literature lovers.
