Museum of Folk Arts and Crafts
About museum
Russia is considered the birthplace of Russian lacquer miniature painting, thanks to the technology for making snuffboxes used in Fedoskino in the 1920s, which became the basis for the emergence of centers such as Palekh, Mstyora and Kholuy. The Lukutin House, a 19th-century historical and cultural monument, houses a museum dedicated to the history of the origin and development of the folk arts and crafts of the Moscow Region. Lacquer items with miniature painting have been produced here since 1795. The building was constructed by Nikolai Alexandrovich Lukutin. The collection of Fedoskino folk craft works is the most comprehensive in Russia. During a tour you can learn how, over two centuries, the culture of creating and decorating lacquer items for various purposes developed, and you can also become acquainted with painting techniques and production technology. At the museum kiosk you can purchase items from well-known Moscow-region folk arts and crafts.
