Moscow Maritime Fleet Museum
About museum
The museum is located in the building of a city manor, built in the mid-18th – early 19th century. Its history began on March 4, 1958, when Yu. V. Savinov signed the order to organize the Exhibition of the Maritime Fleet in Moscow. On January 12, 1960, the Minister of the Maritime Fleet of the USSR, V. G. Bakaev, and Fleet Admiral S. G. Gorshkov opened the exposition in the building of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The museum's collections contain items reflecting various stages in the development of the science and technology of shipbuilding. Among the unique exhibits are items and interior fragments from the icebreaker "Yermak" and the wheelhouse of the icebreaker "F. Litke". In 2017 a permanent exhibition was opened in the museum halls showing highlights of the history of sea and river transport. It features original items from the icebreaker "Yermak", ship models, fine art, memorial items, and recent acquisitions to the museum's collection. The museum is currently closed for renovation.
