Museum of Kurmangazy Sagyrbayev in the village of Altynzhar
About museum
In the early 1980s, the grave of Kurmangazy in the territory of Volodarsky District of Astrakhan Oblast was visited by a delegation from the Dengiz district of the Guryev (Atyrau) region of Kazakhstan. The chairman of the collective farm named after Kurmangazy, V. D. Dzhumamukhanbetov, proposed creating a museum dedicated to the Kazakh kuishi (composer-performer), to be built with the cooperation of the two regions. In October 1984 a construction crew arrived in Altynzhar from the Dengiz district, and at the beginning of 1985 the building was completed. Residents of Astrakhan villages donated household items, documents and musical instruments to the museum free of charge; these items relate to the history and culture of Astrakhan Kazakhs, the Bukey Horde, the interaction between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Astrakhan Oblast, as well as the life and creative heritage of Kurmangazy Sagyrbayev.
