Goat Museum
About museum
In 2003, on Uryupinsk City Day, the Goat Museum was opened. The origin of the Pukhova goat, which is the pride of Uryupinsk, stems from an unscientific crossbreeding between the Caucasian mountain goat and the roe deer. Knitting garments from goat down is a craft practiced in nearly every household. The museum displays more than 100 exhibits: scarves, shawls, stoles, dresses, and representations of the goat made from clay, wood, salt dough, and other materials. The museum hosts interactive programs where visitors can learn about the goat's origins and the down industry, and can even make their own down scarf using knitting needles or a mechanical knitting machine. This place will introduce you to the history and craft of knitting garments from goat down.
