Pechory City History Museum
About museum
Since 2011 the Pechory City History Museum has been a branch of the state museum-reserve 'Izborsk'. Its founding history began in the 1920s when the Russian Cultural and Educational Society started collecting museum valuables. The museum developed until 1944, when during the battles for the liberation of the town the building burned down and all the exhibits were lost. In 1949 a room for exhibits was allocated in the House of Culture, which is considered the museum's founding date. In 1974 the museum moved into the building of the former district polyclinic. Today the museum holds more than 15,000 storage units, including collections of written documents, precious metals, textiles and costumes, ceramics and porcelain, as well as archaeological items. The museum organizes various events, tours and lectures, attracting the townspeople's attention to the history of the Pechory district.
