The Municipal Budgetary Cultural Institution 'Museum of the History of Irkutsk named after A. M. Sibiryakov' was founded in 1996. It presents the history of the city and its residents. The museum's collections exceed 50,000 items. In addition to the main history department, the museum has four branches. It has become a place for leisure and community meetings, as well as an educational and publishing center. Staff organize the annual conferences 'My City' and 'Sibiryakov Readings'. Near the museum the following are actively operating: the children's local history club 'Irkutsk — Fort Ross', the 'Vstrecha' club, the 'Nostalgia' ballroom dance club, and the 'Sibirsky Strelok' military-historical reenactment club. The museum offers many opportunities to learn about the region's history and for active recreation.
