I.D. Vasilenko Museum
About museum
The museum building was constructed according to an 1858 design. The small eclectic façade incorporates elements of Classicism, Renaissance, and Baroque. In 1923 the building was requisitioned and handed over to the head of political education, Ivan Dmitrievich Vasilenko. He lived here for more than 40 years, and after the writer's death the building was transferred to the Taganrog Museum-Reserve. In 2004 the museum opened its doors to visitors. It displays the writer's personal belongings and a library that contains literary works, the writings of V. I. Lenin, dictionaries and encyclopedias, as well as the author's novellas and short stories. The museum entrance is decorated with a sculpture of Artemka Zagoruyko — the main character of Vasilenko's books — holding a magical box. Thus, the museum of Ivan Dmitrievich Vasilenko is part of the Taganrog State Literary and Historical-Architectural Museum-Reserve. Here visitors can appreciate the carefully preserved personal items of the writer, as well as the library containing works, the writings of V. I. Lenin, and the author's works.
