About museum
The Murom Museum is a major cultural institution of the Vladimir Region, opened in 1919. It has the status of a specially valuable object of cultural heritage and includes collections of more than 90,000 items. The core of the collection consists of the collections of renowned Russian archaeologists, as well as Murom enthusiasts and collectors of antiquities. The museum's gallery is located in a two-storey building, built in 1815 in the classical style, and refurbished after restoration in the 1990s. Inside you can find an exhibition of Russian and Western European art from the 16th to the early 20th century, a research library and an archive. The museum's art collection is based on the collection of the Counts Uvarov, received in 1918 from their estate in Karacharovo. It includes works of Russian and Western European painting, furniture, and decorative and applied art objects made of bronze, marble, ceramics, porcelain and glass.
