About museum
In 2006 the municipal budgetary cultural institution "Kholm-Zhirkovsky Historical and Local Lore Museum" was established, comprising two museums: the Historical and Local Lore Museum in the urban-type settlement of Kholm-Zhirkovsky and a branch — a museum-memorial of the combat glory of the 166th Rifle Division and the Vadinsky partisan region in the village of Verkhovye, Kholm-Zhirkovsky District. The institution's collections total 6,385 items, including the main collection and the scientific auxiliary collection. The museum has formed collections of various kinds that are constantly being replenished. The work of the museums is an integral part of the cultural life of the district; they are a source of the most important historical information about it and help raise the moral and cultural education of the population. The institution also actively participates in the public life of the district, carrying out activities in several areas, including educational outreach, collection management, research, methodological work, exhibition activities, and the activities of the district local history club "Istok".
