N.K. Roerich Memorial House-Museum, Verkh-Uymon village
About museum
The museum was established on the grounds of the former estate of Varfolomey (Vakhramey) Semenovich Atamanov. From August 7 to 19, 1926, N.K. Roerich's Central Asian expedition stayed here. On the second floor of the house lived Nikolai Konstantinovich, his wife Elena Ivanovna and their eldest son Yuri Nikolaevich.
In 2001, after the house was restored by the Siberian Roerich Society, the N.K. Roerich Memorial House-Museum was opened. It exhibits maps of the expedition routes and the Roerich family's photo archive, reproductions of paintings by N.K. and S.N. Roerich. Among the original exhibits are a sketch by N.K. Roerich, "Lights of Victory", items from the expedition luggage and archaeological collection, lifetime editions of N.K. Roerich's works, and personal belongings of the Roerich family.
