About museum
The Monchegorsk Museum of Gemstones was founded by Vladimir Nikolaevich Dav in 1971. In 2007, after renovation, it was moved to a new building in the city center. The museum houses a collection of minerals and rocks used in jewelry and decorative arts. Visitors can view many items made from colored stones. The museum also features the "Classic Collection" exhibition of more than 2,000 mineral specimens from various regions of the world. The exhibition is based on the collection of Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Ivan Ilyich Chupilin. The "Facets of Personality" exhibition introduces visitors to the biography of the museum's founder, Vladimir Nikolaevich Dav. A separate hall displays exclusive items made from colored stones and the rarest mineral and rock specimens. The museum provides opportunities to study, promote, and preserve natural heritage.
