About museum
The Museum of Cosmonautics in the village of Shorshely, Chuvash Republic, was established on December 14, 1972, in honor of the third Soviet cosmonaut A. G. Nikolayev. It consists of the Museum of Cosmonautics, the House-Museum of the Nikolayev family, the tomb at the cosmonaut's burial site, a bronze bust of A. G. Nikolayev, the A. G. Nikolayev garden-park with the exhibition 'Manned Cosmonautics in Portraits', and two alleys — the Alley of Cosmonauts and the Alley of Honorary Guests. More than 6,000 exhibits are on display here, including unique items — the "Sokol" suits for launch and descent, personal belongings of cosmonauts A. G. Nikolayev and N. M. Budarin, the ZIS-110 automobile, and descent modules from the Vostok and Soyuz-TMA spacecraft. The museum operates a digital mobile planetarium. Events are held here on Defender of the Fatherland Day, Cosmonautics Day, and Victory Day. The museum actively carries out educational and outreach activities and organizes various exhibitions.
