MBUK 'Tesinsky Art Museum'
About museum
On April 17, 1983, members of the Union of Artists of Russia decided to open a gallery in honor of the 135th anniversary of the birth of V. I. Surikov, who visited the village of Tes several times to see his sister E. Vinogradova between 1865 and 1873. As a gift to the workers of the kolkhoz 'Iskra Lenina', 304 works of art were transferred: 140 paintings, 130 graphic works, 30 sculptures, 16 applied art pieces, and 14 theatrical and film sketches. In 2010 the gallery received the status of MBUK 'Tesinsky Art Museum'. It is located on the site of the Tesinskaya Bogoroditse-Kazanskaya Church, opened in 1805 and demolished in 1966. The museum runs educational and cultural outreach programs for a wide audience, as well as programs for patriotic education. The museum has six halls; the main collection comprises 761 works by 360 authors. The museum's exhibitions tell about the life and work of V. Surikov, V. Elin, and the everyday life and culture of the 19th-century Russian izba.
