Kurgan Regional Museum of Local Lore
About museum
On November 10, 1951 the first museum in Kurgan was opened. Over the next 40 years it moved from the Alexander Nevsky Church to the building of the former House of Political Enlightenment. In 2011 the planetarium was revived; it had existed in Kurgan since 1957. The museum houses more than 200,000 items, including 40 museum collections. The museum features permanent exhibitions on history and nature, and also hosts thematic exhibitions. Since 2003, at the initiative of the museum and Kurgan State University, the all-Russian scientific and practical conference 'Zyryanov Readings' has been held annually. In addition to traditional formats, the museum offers visitors interactive and combined tours, workshops, quests and virtual exhibitions.
