About museum
In January 1977 the bureau of the district party committee made a decision to establish a People's Museum. For this purpose, a collection of exhibits reflecting the history, culture and everyday life of the Chuvash people began to be gathered. In March 1979 the museum was opened in the village of Krasnye Chetai and in the same year was granted 'folk' status. It became a cultural heritage site of the Krasnochetaisky District. The museum's collection numbers over 4,000 exhibits, including paintings, works of art of ethnographic and artistic value, embroideries, outer garments, ceramics and photographs. The main visitors are school pupils and local residents. A major contribution to the creation of the museum was made by the local historian and first director V. G. Tolstov-Atnarsky, who worked at the museum until 1993.
