Kargopol Museum is one of the oldest in the Arkhangelsk Region, founded on March 27, 1919, based on the private collection of K. G. Kolpakov. The museum's holdings now number more than 32,500 items, including icon painting and sculpture, painting and graphics, gold embroidery and folk embroidery, women's folk costume and painted woodwork, manuscript and early printed books, and the Kargopol clay toy. The museum comprises 11 architectural monuments of federal and regional significance, as well as a Museum and Exhibition Center where exhibitions, concerts by the museum's sacred music choir, historical programs and master classes are held. The annual bell-ringing festival 'Crystal Chimes' and scientific conferences take place in Kargopol, and on the first floor of the Vvedenskaya Church there is a souvenir exhibition and sale. A ramp is provided for persons with musculoskeletal disabilities and wheelchair users. The museum offers guided tours of the town and of architectural monuments in rural settlements.
