Baba Katya's izba — a peasant log house, an architectural monument of the 17th century
About museum
The main attraction of the Koptelovo Museum of the History of Agriculture and Peasant Life is Baba Katya's izba, built, judging by the techniques used, at the end of the 17th century. In the book "Rezhev Treasures" it is claimed that this is the oldest building in the Middle Urals. Baba Katya's izba was entirely hewn with an axe, without the use of saws or planes. The izba was named after its last resident, Ekaterina Timofeevna Kalinina, from whom it was purchased in 1972.
The izba has preserved its original interior (a very rare phenomenon, not only in the Urals): wide split-log benches, a ceiling of whole logs, a floor of wide floorboards, a clay-packed stove, polati (lofted platforms), podlavki (under-bench cupboards), matitsa, furnishings and household items. Today it is recognized as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
