In 2017, at the initiative of the residents of Suoyarvsky District, the Historical and Local Lore Museum was opened. It houses a collection of finds and donations from local historians. The district's history is linked to a succession of powers, including Novgorod the Great, the Grand Duchy of Moscow, Sweden, the Russian Empire, Finland and the USSR. The area was the scene of military operations during the Soviet–Finnish wars and the Great Patriotic War. The museum features military-historical and ethnographic displays that reveal the remarkable history of the Suoyarvi land. The museum also holds temporary exhibitions on the history, nature and culture of Karelia. Its cozy space invites visitors to learn, socialize, and be creative.
