Exhibition and Educational Center 'Planet Ocean'
About museum
On August 19 a new building of the Museum of the World Ocean — 'Planet Ocean' — opened its doors to visitors. It is the largest exhibition and educational center in Russia that preserves and presents knowledge about the Ocean. Its construction was carried out within the framework of the museum development concept approved by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The opening of 'Planet Ocean' was timed to coincide with Geographer's Day and the 180th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society.
The exhibition and educational center 'Planet Ocean' has seven floors. It houses six scientific laboratories, the 'Great Ocean' hall, 'Aquariums', and a library. The new building will open in three stages, and the first areas available to visitors on August 19 were the Baltic Laboratory, 'Aquariums', the 'Great Ocean' hall, the Beauty Laboratory, and the Library — four floors of exhibition space. Until the exhibits on the other floors are completed, the new museum building will operate in test mode.
