Yuryevets Historical and Art Museum
About museum
The creation of the Museum was made possible thanks to close cooperation between the Yuryevets branch and the Ivanovo-Voznesensk Provincial Scientific and Local History Society in 1924. The staff involved in establishing the museum included A. I. Butaev, P. I. Makarov and B. V. Shiryaev, and the director appointed was Alexey Ivanovich Butaev. Today the Yuryevets Museum Complex includes four museums, one of which is the Historical and Art Museum. It was opened on December 28, 1999 in the old building constructed by merchant A. L. Flyagin in 1903. Previously a school was located here, and after its closure various organizations occupied the building. Today the museum displays a large number of exhibits representing a complete historical picture of the town from its founding to the present day. All the museum's treasures occupy the building's second floor and are distributed among four exhibition halls. The first of them contains exhibitions about the ancient fortress on the Volga River and the town of Yuryevets during the Great Patriotic War (World War II).
