Historical Museum of the town of Polevskoy

About museum

The museum (initially a people's museum) was opened in 1967, but its collection had been formed long before the opening: as early as 1950 P. P. Bazhov donated "for the organizing museum of the town of Polevskoy" several of his books with autographs. In 1980 the museum became part of the Sverdlovsk Regional Local History Museum and received its current building. It was built in 1916 during the tenure of the last manager of the Polevskoy factory, A. S. Vyatkin. Before the museum, the building housed the town's vocational school, a primary school, and a seven-year school. The museum presents the key moments of Polevskoy's history, beginning with its foundation. In the central hall, dedicated to the archaeology and nature of the Polevskoy district, note the collection of minerals gathered in these rich localities. The chronicle of Polevskoy's development from the city's founding to the present day is laid out across two halls. The museum's calling card is a separate "Bazhov" hall (exhibition "The Bazhov Family at the Polevskoy Factory. Polevskoy Fairy Tale"). The exhibition hall hosts temporary projects: exhibitions of local craftsmen and collections from the funds of the Sverdlovsk Regional Local History Museum. Since December 2015 a separate room has housed a planetarium: it contains the rare 1961 "UP-2" device, which projects the constellations of the Northern Hemisphere onto the dark dome of the sky, and museum staff run educational programs on astronomy.
