Khunzakh Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
Located in Khunzakh is the Khunzakh Historical and Local Lore Museum, housed in the estate-house of naib Alikilych Chupanov. It is a 19th-century architectural monument — a U-shaped building with an arcaded ground floor and a spacious open veranda on the second floor. The museum's collections include stone, ceramic and bronze items from a medieval settlement, as well as unique ethnographic exhibits — tools, antique wooden householdware, the storage-cupboard 'tsag'ur' and more. The museum also displays traditional clothing ensembles, mountain warriors' military equipment, rare weapons, old manuscripts and works by Ispik potters. Opened in 1978, the museum is part of a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi and contains over 5,850 exhibits.
