About museum

State Central Museum of Cinema is one of Russia's younger museums, founded in March 1989 on the basis of the reorganized Museum Department of the All-Union Bureau for the Promotion of Cinematography. For more than two decades the Film Centre on Krasnaya Presnya hosted collection holdings and screened masterpieces of world cinema. In 2005 the storage collections were moved to the Mosfilm film concern territory, while film screenings and other events were held at various venues across Moscow. Currently the director of the Film Museum is Larisa Solonitsyna. The Museum's activities include collecting, systematizing and cataloguing items related to the history of film culture, organizing exhibitions and displays, and programming film screenings. In the Museum's new space at VDNKh there are three screening halls, areas for permanent exhibitions, lecture rooms and a branded shop.
