Prokhladny Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
In the autumn of 1965, the first people's museum was opened in Prokhladny. The work to create it was led by enthusiast Ivan Ivanovich Yantsen, who became its first director. For more than 30 years the local history exhibition was housed in a historic building that until 1917 had been a salt warehouse and later served as a kindergarten and primary school. In 2017 the museum was moved to the premises of a former printing house. On May 18, 2018, International Museum Day, the new location with four spacious halls was opened. The archaeology hall presents more than 100 genuine items covering a vast chronological range. The second hall features Cossack ethnography and the history of two wars — World War I and the Civil War. The third hall is dedicated to the combat and labor feats of Prokhladny residents during the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition is completed by a collection of items from the second half of the 20th century: the history of culture, industry, agriculture, sports, medicine, and Soviet state and public organizations.
