Ethnocultural Center of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug
About museum
The Ethnocultural Center is a state-funded cultural institution whose official founding date is considered to be July 10, 1994. In fact, however, its work began much earlier — on July 1, 1960, when the Regional House of Folk Art was opened. The ECC's mission is to preserve the region's cultural identity; to organize regional contests, festivals and folk art reviews; to process and document folklore; to provide methodological assistance to cultural institutions and club groups; and to carry out editorial and publishing activities. The ECC includes the following departments: organizational-methodological; Nenets; Komi; Slavic culture; literary creativity; library and information; the workshop "Mel Manzarana" ("Skilled Master"); a souvenir shop; and a library with a collection of about 8,000 cataloged items. The ECC is a laureate of the All-Russian review of ethnocultural centers and ranked among the top ten centers in Russia, but it does not have its own premises and is located in Building 2 of the KDC "Arktika".
