House-Museum of Academician S.P. Korolev
About museum
Not far from the "Conquerors of Space" monument, in one of the Ostankino lanes, behind a green wooden fence, stands a two-storey mansion surrounded by a garden. The house was built in 1959 to a design by architect R. I. Semerdzhiev and was gifted to S. P. Korolev by the Soviet government in gratitude for the 1957 launch of the first artificial Earth satellite. Here Sergei Pavlovich lived for six years (1959–1966), performing titanic efforts and heading all the priority projects for the exploration of outer space. In 1975 a Memorial House-Museum was opened in this house, preserving the former atmosphere of Sergei Pavlovich's life. It displays Korolev's personal household items, documents, letters, photographs, furniture, works of fine art, and scientific-technical and art libraries. The museum holds approximately 19,000 items.
