Central Air Force Museum
About museum
Founded in 1958 in the Moscow-region military town of Monino at the initiative of the head of the Air Force Academy, Marshal of Aviation S. A. Krasovsky, a museum-exhibition of Air Force aviation equipment was created at the Red Banner Air Force Academy. The rich collection assembled for this purpose includes 190 airplanes, helicopters and gliders, including unique exhibits from 1909, aircraft from World War I, the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, post-war combat machines, as well as examples of modern military and civil aviation equipment developed by the Tupolev, Yakovlev, Sukhoi, Ilyushin, Antonov, Mil and other design bureaus. Premises of workshops and two hangars at the airfield were allocated for the museum. By a special order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force, all commanders of units and subdivisions were obliged to transfer obsolete aircraft to the museum. The aviation exhibits are displayed on an open parking area and in halls (hangars).
