The Municipal Budgetary Institution 'Intersettlement Chegdomyn Local History Museum' was opened on September 10, 1977, on the 50th anniversary of the formation of Verkhnebureinsky District. It is a structural subdivision of the Department of Culture under the district administration. The museum offers exhibitions in four halls: 'Black Cube', 'Nature of the District / Indigenous Inhabitants of the District', 'The District During the Great Patriotic War', and 'History of the District'. As of January 1, 2019, the museum collection comprised 9,834 items in the main fund and 8,811 items in the scientific and auxiliary fund. The museum holds more than 20 permanent and traveling exhibitions annually. There is also a museum center called 'Museum and Children', where elementary school students from the schools of the settlement of Chegdomyn participate in a special local history program. The museum actively cooperates with preschools, schools, a technical college, enterprises, and organizations of the district.
