In 1991 the People's Museum was founded in Chadan; it became a branch of the National Museum of the Republic of Tuva on January 1, 1992. It was established to preserve, research and promote the history of the Dzun-Khemchik Kozhuun of the Republic of Tuva. The museum's exhibits present the culture, daily life and occupations of the Tuvan people, the history of the Dzun-Khemchik Kozhuun and the town of Chadan, the spread of Buddhism and shamanism, and other topics. The museum has permanent exhibitions and also offers guided tours on various themes. Today it is a center of culture and local history and the keeper of Tuva's spiritual and material heritage.
