Baykalovsky District Local History Museum
About museum
Baykalovsky District Local History Museum was opened in 1985 to mark the 40th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The initial materials were primarily recollections and photographs of war participants. The initiator and first director was war veteran Arefyev Valentin Petrovich. In 2000 the local history museum was given an old building dating from 1896 (the D. A. Bakharev mansion), which has unique architectural features. In 2012 the mansion was designated as an object of cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation of regional significance. Over the years the museum's collections have grown to 10,000 exhibits — including photographs from various periods, wooden sculptures of wild and domestic animals, documents, albums, household items, currency and badges, paintings, applied arts objects, printed materials, and more. The museum hosts a number of exhibitions: 'Ancient Life on Baykalov Land', 'Peasant Life at the End of the 19th — Beginning of the 20th Century', 'No One Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Forgotten', and 'Living Room of the 1960s'. In addition to thematic exhibitions, the museum holds annual creative events such as the 'Pokrovskaya Fair', 'Christmas Souvenir', 'Let's Walk Through the Village', and others.
