House of Designer Kalashnikov — Glass Museum in Uglich
About museum
In the historic part of Uglich stands the old house of Vasily Kalashnikov. It houses three exhibitions: the Glass Museum, a tea room with a Russian stove and samovars, and the designer's study. Vasily Kalashnikov was born in this house and received his primary education at the district school. Later he moved to Rybinsk and Nizhny Novgorod, where he took up designing and engineering barges for transporting kerosene, air blowers, superheaters and a steam engine. The architectural features of Kalashnikov's house have remained virtually unchanged since the 18th century: the front section is made of stone, the rest of the building is wood, decorated with carved window surrounds, pediments and glazed tiles.
The designer's study displays models of his inventions, as well as documents, photographs and sketches. The tea room showcases Russian tea-making traditions and the utensils used for them.
