Askinsky Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
In 1961 the Askinsky Historical and Local Lore Museum was established; it collected a large number of exhibits thanks to the efforts of the local community. Unfortunately, after the building was damaged in an accident in 1989, the museum was closed. All exhibits were moved to storage rooms, and many of them disappeared or were damaged. Due to financial problems, the museum did not operate for almost fifteen years. In 2005, thanks to the administration of the Askinsky District and the National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan, a decision was made to restore the museum. It was opened in a rented space on the second floor of the District House of Culture (RDK). Directors, local historians and teachers made a significant contribution to this effort. Today the Askinsky Historical and Local Lore Museum does not have a permanent exhibition, but it leads an active life, preserving national traditions and fostering respect for the history of the native land. The museum houses more than 5,000 items in its main and auxiliary collections, which are constantly being supplemented with new exhibits. The museum also hosts a District Society of Local Historians that conducts research into the region's history.
