The Museum of History and Local Lore in Cherepovets has existed since 1896. In 1925 it was granted the status of a local history museum. The exhibition 'Young City — Ancient City' tells the story of the region's past and presents visitors with a wide variety of exhibits: from ancient weapons to fashionable ladies' dresses, from an anti-aircraft gun to an aerial bomb, from a model of the first blast furnace to residential room interiors. In 2016 a new exhibition, 'The Cherepovets Region in Antiquity and the Middle Ages', was opened, dedicated to the history of Cherepovets from the 7th millennium BC to the beginning of the 17th century. The museum hosts various events: theatrical guided tours, master classes, and patriotic lessons. It is an excellent place to learn about the history of the native region.
