The A.N. Radishchev Museum hosted the opening of the interregional exhibition “Bogolyubov — Radishchev's Grandson” from the collections of the Saratov State Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev. The exhibition project was made possible by the cooperation between the Association of State Literary and Memorial Museums of the Penza Region and the Saratov State Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev, with direct support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Penza Region.

The year 2024 is marked by anniversary dates of two great figures: the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexey Petrovich Bogolyubov and the 275th anniversary of the birth of A.N. Radishchev, whose names are connected with the old village of Verkhnee Ablyazovo, now Radishchevo. It is symbolic that here, on the former Radishchev family estate, two well-known personalities in Russian history — grandfather and grandson — are linked.

The creative part of the event opened with an introduction by Valentin Mikheev (guitar) performing Máximo Diego’s “Prelude.” The musical program also included the romances “Ne penitsya more” and “I Remember a Wonderful Moment” performed by Olga Osipova.

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Nizhny Ablyazovo, a cover issued by Russian Post was put into circulation. Boris Moskalev, Deputy Chairman of the Penza branch of the Union of Philatelists of Russia, shared the story of the cover from idea to realization. The first cancellation was carried out by the head of the Diocesan Department for Public Relations, Archpriest Sergey Sidorov, the general director of the Saratov State Art Museum Elena Galaktionova, and the deputy general director of the Association Oksana Khristoforova.

"To honor the grandson of Alexander Nikolaevich Radishchev — Alexey Petrovich Bogolyubov — right here on this land is fitting. My colleagues and I discussed placing this exhibition and realized it seemed to have been ‘born’ here; the large number of windows divided it into thematic components and added airiness. It turned into a very harmonious exhibition that will find its audience," said the deputy general director of the Association while opening the official part of the event.

Elena Galaktionova, general director of the Saratov State Art Museum, noted that the museums share common roots and that this exhibition lays the foundation for future joint projects.

"We brought the unique material that formed part of Alexey Petrovich Bogolyubov’s first collection — he founded the first provincial public art museum in Saratov in honor of his grandfather. The initial collection included not only works of fine art and a library but also all the materials he gathered throughout his life," Galaktionova said.

Honorary guests of the exhibition included members of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Tatarstan, who arrived in Radishchevo to take part in a plein air. They also noted the blessed atmosphere of the place, its picturesque landscapes, and expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event.

Visitors were invited to view exhibits that tell about the important stages of Alexey Petrovich Bogolyubov’s life and work. The first visitors were given a tour by Anna Vlasova, a specialist in exhibition and display activities at the A.N. Radishchev Museum. The exhibition project allows visitors to become acquainted with A.P. Bogolyubov’s paintings, documents, and photographs, which are authentic items from the Saratov State Art Museum named after A.N. Radishchev. More than 50 exhibits will illustrate the important stages of A.P. Bogolyubov’s life and work.

The exhibition “Bogolyubov — Radishchev's Grandson” will be open to visitors until mid-October 2024.
