On May 20, 2024, the Armoury Chamber will host a concert in the "Musical Meetings at the Kremlin" series. For the first time in the history of this treasury museum, visitors will hear majestic Easter music for choir, organ, and violin. A diverse program has been specially assembled for the performance, featuring sacred works and romances by Russian composers of past centuries as well as by contemporary composers.
The genre of sacred music was popular among many Russian composers, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky made a significant contribution to it — the concert will begin with his choral setting of Psalm 148 from the "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom." Then the cycle "Three Choruses on Church Slavonic Texts" by Igor Stravinsky and works by Rachmaninoff will be performed, among them "Panteleimon the Healer" to verses by Aleksey Tolstoy, as well as the romances "It Is Good Here," "Dream," and "Lilac." In addition, the Prelude in C-sharp minor, one of the composer's most famous and popular works, will be performed.
The program will continue with works by contemporary composers Rodion Shchedrin, Kuzma Bodrov, Petr Koryagin, Tatyana Shatkovskaya, Sofia Mikaelyan, Vyacheslav Zuev, and Deacon Roman Galiev.
The concert will conclude with the choral fragment from Alexander Scriabin's Symphony No. 1 "Hail to Art!" He composed it at the turn of the century as an embodiment of the concept of the synthesis of the arts and even wrote the verses of the "Hymn of Praise" — the symphony's final part.
Participants: the Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory under the direction of Professor Alexander Solovyov, Professor Evgenia Krivitskaya (organ), and the second-prize laureate of the IX International Competition-Festival of Young Performers, winner of international competitions Maria-Emilia Terzyan-Hagba (violin).
The concert starts at 19:00
