Borodino Maslenitsa in the Traditions of Peter the Great's Army

On the day of the Shirokaya Maslenitsa celebration, March 2, 2025, the Borodino Field State Museum-Reserve will be transformed into a bustling fairground with entertainment for every taste. At the site by the main exhibition of the Borodino Museum there will be folk festivities with songs, dances, competitions of strength and agility, and golden-brown pancakes.

This year we travel back to the era of Peter I and will explore the traditions of the Russian military in the first quarter of the 18th century. You will learn about the weapons and equipment of the regiments of the Russian army, what soldiers ate on campaign, and how the army was supplied. Members of historical reenactment clubs will demonstrate drill evolutions — you will see how drill training was conducted in the army and perhaps have your photo taken with Peter the Great himself.

On this day you'll find master classes on making Maslenitsa dolls and spring-bird ornaments, interactive stations, and performances by creative groups from the Mozhaysk urban district. For all visitors to Borodino Field there will be singing and dancing by the ensembles 'Zamanikha', 'Larets', 'Ivushka', 'Mokrovchanochka', 'Uvarushka', Olga Marushevskaya, and the group 'Grilyazh'.

The bravest will test themselves in strength and agility contests — for you we've prepared a pole with prizes and built a huge snow fortress. And of course, our Borodino Maslenitsa won't be complete without lively and merry Cossacks — at the 'Kazachiy Razgulyay' area you can enjoy pancakes, warm up with hot tea, and listen to songs accompanied by the garmon (Russian button accordion).

No one will be bored at the Borodino Maslenitsa. Celebrations in Borodino are always fun, interesting, and historically themed.

Exhibition "This Is Selyodkin!" by Igor Silantyev CK19 Culture Center presents an exhibition by Novosibirsk photographer, poet and philologist Igor Silantyev. In the halls — more than 60 photographic works complemented by conceptual artistic text. The exhibition features black-and-white and color images that the author publishes online under the nickname "This Is Selyodkin". (Selyodkin is one of the recurring characters in Igor Silantyev's book "Write a Letter to Tyanitolkaev"). The photographs are made in the style of mobile photography (a direct descendant of lomography) — shots taken on a mobile phone camera and processed on it. "For mobile photography, technically it is characteristic to have whatever (often deliberately mediocre) resolution, the coarseness and unnaturalness of light and color rendering, distorted perspective, and averaging framing; and, in an extremely broadly interpreted aesthetic sense — irony, grotesque, loss of objecthood, flatness and indistinction of details, yet at the same time — intensely heightened narrative and expressiveness built on the play and conflict of forms," the exhibition's author shares. Taken in its singularity and isolation, mobile photography inevitably loses out to traditional photography, but when collected together — into a multiplicity, into a feed, into a kaleidoscope, into a collage — it reveals other qualities that are scarcely attainable within classical approaches. "Selyodkin from the book is a grotesque character who, due to his particular way of life, has lost the ability to express his thoughts verbally and replies to all external impulses with a hoarse, prolonged 'A-a-a!'. The photographs presented in the project have nothing to do with Selyodkin's habits, but the project is related to his speech manner by this prolonged 'A-a-a!'," explains Igor Silantyev. "Because the terrible, piercing truth is that any truly good photograph is actually nothing but this prolonged 'A-a-a!' and nothing more. That is why the speechless Selyodkin serves as the communicative symbol of this project." 18+ The exhibition opens on September 5 and will run through October 6.

Restoration of the Alexander Grin Museum Completed in Kirov On the occasion of Kirov's 650th anniversary, a restoration was carried out of a federal historical and cultural monument — the A.S. Grin Museum. The museum is located in a one-story stone house with a mezzanine, built to a design by architect E.K. Nyukvist in 1908. The building is 116 years old. It stands on the site of the estate of the soldier's widow Ivanova, whose family the Grinevskys rented an annex from. In 2024 the facade was restored, as were the ornamental vases on the roof, and the roof was repaired. During the works, window units were replaced and restored, the entrance area was renovated, and the walls and ceiling were repaired. The building received exterior lighting, and the surrounding area was landscaped. Also in 2024, in preparation for the museum's re-exposition, extensive research was carried out on the museum collections. As a result, the updated exhibition features items that belonged to the Grinevsky family and have never been exhibited before. These include household items and tableware, and a postcard from the Grinevskys' family album. Most of these items were donated to the museum in 1977 by Olga Mikhailovna Grinevskaya, the widow of Alexander Grin's younger brother. A permanent exhibition in two halls presents the writer's childhood and family. The halls recreate the typical setting of a family of an ordinary clerk, displaying memorial items from the Grinevsky family and furniture from the late 19th century. In other exhibition halls, temporary exhibitions dedicated to the lives and works of outstanding local writers and well-known Russian writers of the 19th–20th centuries are also planned.
